  3. racing. A horse, as a 3-year-old, must
  4. win the three biggest races of the year:
  5. the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness
  6. Stakes, and the Belmont Stakes.
  7. Besides Secretariat, only 10 horses in
  8. history have won the Triple Crown. They
  9. were Sir Barton (in 1919), Gallant Fox
  10. (1930), Omaha (1935), War Admiral
  11. (1937), Whirlaway (1941), Count Fleet
  12. (1943), Assault (1946), Citation (1948),
  13. Seattle Slew (1977), and Affirmed
  14. (1978). Gallant Fox was the sire (father)
  15. of Omaha, making them the only father-
  16. son combination to win the Triple Crown.
